Private Event at the Lawson-Westen House
Despite the fact that the Lakers were playing Game 7 this past Thursday, we had a great turn-out at our privately held event at 167 S. Westgate in Brentwood. Twenty1 West Catering (formerly of the 21 Club in New York) served the absolutely delicious hors d’oeuvres. The architect Eric Owen Moss elaborated on the design and building of this extraordinary home, which was followed with additional commentation by the owner who so eloquently pointed out that even though one – upon first entering – might think of the home merely as a stunning museum it functions very well as a family home with some fun twists. It’s a home that continues to fascinate and even AFTER having lived in the house for over 17 years the owners continue to discover new aspects and details contributing to the joy of living there.
As Game 7 came nearer its conclusion and the score was unbearably close, our guests came pouring into the family room to watch the big screen and cheer the Lakers on. The tension was palpable and several guests had to walk away, come back and walk away again because they couldn’t bear the last few minutes. Of course they’d come peeking around the corner because they HAD to know what was going on. And YES, THE LAKERS WON! It certainly crowned a successful evening at a stunning architectural home in Brentwood!

Lawson-Westen House
We’re bringing on the market an iconic contemporary home by Eric Owen Moss, the only residence ever built from the ground up by this internationally acclaimed architect. As head of his own practice since 1973 and as director of SCI-Arc—the cutting-edge architecture school in downtown L.A.—Moss has prodded conventional boundaries to sculpt a powerful, ever-evolving approach to architecture. The Lawson-Westen House is a geometric tour de force of steel, wood and concrete, struts and beams, cones and spheres, circles and voids. With soaring living spaces, walls for art and an ocean-view aerie, this home has been featured in books, magazines, movies, TV shows, commercials and music videos. Listed in “100 OF THE WORLD’S BEST HOUSES” (Images, 2002), it’s a singular house in a singular neighborhood.

Yesterday’s Open House at 708 El Medio, Pacific Palisades
It was a REALLY BUSY Open House yesterday for us at 708 El Medio as 75 people came to look at this home that was recreated by Eric Owen Moss, FAIA in the 70’s. People are clearly in a better state of mind as the economy seems to be showing signs of slight improvement. Of course this time of year is typically busier in real estate, but the fact that financing is harder to get nowadays than it used to be makes this increase in potential buyers coming to see open houses encouraging!
We’ll be open again tomorrow 5/4/2010 from 11 – 2 for Brokers’ Caravan.
